It is situated about 65 miles southwest of Lubbock and about 50 miles east of New Mexico. The city has a warm semi-arid climate with hot summers and mild winters. Average temperatures range from a low of 32°F in January to a high of 95°F in July.

The city was originally established as a trading post by pioneers who visited the area in the late 19th century and early 20th century. It was incorporated as a town in 1921 and became an official city two years later. The economy of Seminole is primarily based on agricultural activities such as farming and ranching. Other industries include oil production, manufacturing, healthcare, retail, tourism, and government services.

The public school system consists of three elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, and one alternative education center. There are also several private schools located within Seminole’s city limits including St Mary’s Catholic School and Trinity Christian Academy.
